Laughs at the Library

November 7th, 2013

A drizzly, dreary day.  Perfect for the library!

Getting ready to head out, Christian told me that Lindalee is a "Snow Princess" and he is "Mud Super Hero".

The kids and I spent a lot of time at the libraries in Charlotte.  They were wonderful- all were quite large and new.  I decided to venture to one of the smaller library branches here since it was close to our apartment.  From the outside, it looks like an old and rundown building, but the moment I walked in, I knew I discovered a gem.

The children's area had the best selection of books I have ever seen in a library {and I have been to my fair share}.  Also, it didn't feel like we were at a library in one of the largest cities in the world.  It felt like we were in some small town in the middle of nowhere.  The librarians were so friendly, showing us pictures of their kids, getting us set up with a library card, insisting we come back for the afternoon magic show, and said goodbye to us {using our first names}when we left.

The kids and I spent the morning reading and picked some books to bring home.  While we were there, I had a proud mommy moment that I have to share.  Christian has been "reading" for awhile now {memorizing books}.  Recently, he's become very shy about "reading" and refuses.  I think what's going on is that he's no longer just memorizing the books, but he's actually beginning to read and he's feeling insecure.  While we were there I read a new book to the kids {one they had never heard}.  After I finished, Christian took the book, sat on the ground, and read the entire thing out loud, word-for-word.  The mom we were hanging out with said, "Did he just read that book?".  I beamed, "Yes!".

We came home for lunch and resttime.  Pant-less Christian {what's new?} really enjoys the books with accompanying CD's.  Serious business.

Both kids took a short, but much needed nap {yipee!}.  Once they woke up, we headed back to the library for the magic show.  Christian wasn't so sure he wanted to go.  I could tell from what he was saying that he was a little worried about what the magician was going to do with the rabbit when he pulled him out of a hat.  Not sure where this concern came from.

Christian was nervous to take a picture with "Steve the Magic Guy", Lindalee simply refused.

Once the show got going, the kids moved from my lap, to the front row.  Christian even volunteered, and was picked, to be an assistant in one of the magic tricks.  It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen.  Ever.

Christian was, literally, screaming with laughter the whole time.  Every once in awhile I could hear him say "this is hilarious!".

Lindalee was more interested in what the kids were wearing than the magician himself. She loved the funky rain boots and pretty ribbons some of the girls had in their hair.  She made a couple "friends".

Talk about a day at the library!  We didn't get home until dinner time.  I'd say we found {another} awesome hangout.  Thankful for this wonderful library and the {free} resources it provides!
