We were up and out of the house this morning; heading to the Red Sox victory parade! Christian has been talking about how great it is that the Red Sox won the "world serious". He's a big fan.
We really did pick a good time to move here {despite the arctic temperatures we will be experiencing any day now}. Our time in Boston, so far, has been jam packed with excitement. This morning was no different. We left our apartment and the streets were flooded with fans heading in the same direction as us. It was an absolutely amazing day. Really, the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Everyone was pumped and ready to celebrate.
I have to admit that walking into the city, I was a little nervous. The marathon bombing happened here, right here, just a couple months ago. The absurd amount of law enforcement everywhere helped relieved the anxiety, but was also a reminder of what had happened. Chris mentioned that today was a good day to speed on the highway. It seemed as if every police officer in the sate must have been in the city. I'd never seen anything like it.
The crowd beginning to grow on Boylston Street.
Christian was very excited for the parade
And Lindalee seemed to be as well, or she was just copying her brother.
Showing his "Boston Strong" muscles
Boston love
Not sure what was going on with the kids. They don't look very happy in this one. I swear they were having fun.
Finally.... The parade began!
All the players were riding on the Boston Duck Boats
Nice beard
David Ortiz!! He was on the back of a tractor trailer truck that was blaring "gangsta" music and shooting confetti into the air. Pretty exciting.
We all enjoyed the confetti
The church behind us was playing patriotic songs on their bells while the parade went by.
After the parade passed by Boylson Street, we headed to the river to watch the parade float into the water. What a view!
Doesn't get better than Lindalee lovin'
And into the water they go!
There were so many people, everywhere. All the bridges were closed so people took advantage of the views.
The trophy!
Peak-A-Boo! Crossing the bridge to head home.
The Duck Boats heading back to land.
Busy morning!
This afternoon was the Florida vs Georgia game. It was 10 years ago that Chris and I met. Kind of crazy. Chris went to the sports bar where the New England Gator club was meeting to watch the game. The kids and I were planning on joining him for dinner there, but today wasn't a good day for that. Apparently, after the parade, everyone went to the bars and got really drunk. Not the best environment for children. I took them to the park instead.
When we got back to our apartment, I saw a family we had met on Halloween, playing in the courtyard. They are a sweet and very beautiful Estonian family. {I had never met anyone from Esotnia, but I believe Chris had some adventures in their country back in the day- business school}. We have our first friends! She has two cute little girls, the same age as Christian and Lindalee. The kids ran around with each other and had a blast. It made me so, so happy to see. When we got back to our apartment, Christian asked if he can have his new friends over to play at our home.
I miss our friends, but what makes me want to cry is my kiddos missing their friends. I was just thinking of the song, about old and new friends, I learned when I was little. I googled the lyrics and found this poem. So true.
Make new friends, but keep the old;
New-made friends, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.
Time and change-are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray;
Friendship never knows decay.
Once more we reach and youth renew.
But old friends must alas! may die;
New friends must their place supply;
New is good, but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
Thankful for a beautiful day as well as friends, old and new.
